Measuring a Marriage

I've been blogging for less than a year so there weren't many July posts for me to recycle but this is an important one. After eighteen months of living apart, Big Yankee and I were together again on our 13th anniversary.

July 3, 1999.

In a historic mansion, in front of family and friends Big Yankee and I pledged our love to each other.

In sickness and in health.

For better or worse.

We vowed to love each other through it all.

Thirteen Years.

Four Thousand seven hundred forty one days.

One daughter.

Two sons.

Three children.

Three apartments.

Three lay offs.

Three houses.
Four states.

Sixteen different jobs between us.

Eighteen months of a commuter marriage.

No one ever said marriage was going to be easy.

No one ever told me it was going to be so heartbreakingly difficult.

There were times I wasn't sure we would survive.

Times I thought we were too broken, too shattered.

Times the end of the tunnel was just another cavern of darkness.

Yet here we are-basking in the light at the end.

Together again.

I love you forever and always Big Yankee!

Happy Anniversary!

I'm linking up with yeah write open hangout this week. To read and be read. Head over and check out the fantastic.

Happy Anniversary

I like the rundown of everything. My and I have been married 4 years, my second marriage, her fourth. If we ran down all of our "stuff" the blog post would go on for thousands of words.

Congratulations

Happy Anniversary, Robbie & Big Yankee. Sweet post. You've navigated some rough waters, but sailed through. When times get tough in my life I like to think of stories like yours. Acknowledge the love and you'll make it to the other side!

Happy Anniversary! I love the honesty in this post...especially the "no one ever tells you" part in the comments. This is the stuff...the love after the heartbreakingly difficult times...that makes it worth it. Better times ahead, my friend. I can feel it.

Congratulations on 13 years! You and your husband clearly understand the meaning of those words you spoke then. My husband and I just chuckle at the young people now when we go to weddings -- they are so sweet, and so completely unaware of what those vows really mean. Our anniversary is the day before yours (this was #18).

Awwww... Congratulations. Yes, why does no one ever tell us how much work a successful marriage will take. Or that it's worth it. Sounds like you have that figured out. Hugs!

I like this post very much. It gives me hope, i'm getting married in 6 weeks so it's a good reminder, that things get tough but that doesn't mean it's impossible. :)

So many women can relate to this feeling. You wrote this quite poignantly (where's spell-check for that word). But I like how you show the brightness of marriage. Great piece!

My link-up is not as poetic, but I hope you will stop by and say "hi!"
