Feast or Famine

It was just over a week ago that Big Yankee headed West to retrieve the wrecking crew from Grandparent Island. They made a mini vacation out of it and I was left to my own devices FOUR days. Yes, I had ninety six hours of freedom. Well pretty much. I had work but it was usually just a few hours here and there. I had lofty goals of writing and organizing and pedicures and movies. None of which happened. Tons of uninterrupted time to write and I couldn't string two words together.

My parents spent three days driving across country to visit us. We've fished and picnicked and shown them our favorite eateries and tourist attractions here. It's been a fantastic week and I will probably bawl like a baby when they leave tomorrow. I was never good at goodbyes but the older they get and the further away we live the harder it is. I'm not sure when we will see them again. I've been pricing airline tickets for Christmas and prices are insane.

I've FINALLY met some people here..very fun, welcoming people. Details will be coming soon to a blog post near you. It seems quite strange after two and a half months of isolation to have the start of a social life.

"Be careful what you wish for" is constantly echoing in my head. Work is really taking off and my head is spinning (more than normal). We are building a program from the ground up and it's exciting to be part of something that can change many lives but at times we are really flying by the seat of our pants. Working with these families really puts life in perspective.

I have at least 43 posts half written in my head and not a second to write it down. It's either feast or famine around here so this drive by post will have to suffice.

What's new in your world?

It is tough to live far from family. My wife cries every time someone comes or we leave. She misses them.

I love the feast or famine comparison to blogging. It is so true. There are days when life is so good but I can't even come up with one word let alone string two together. Other days, I have them just pour out as soon as I sit at my desk.
Glad you had some much deserved alone time and time with your parents too!

Yay! I love that you have met some people! Great news. I have been in a blogging rut as well lately- just too much going on in non virtual life, on top of what lies ahead. What's new- we did get the confirmation from casting that we've been accepted for the show! So it's on baby. Coming soon to an HGTV near you :)

I miss my sister so much. She was here this weekend and now I'll probably not see her for another year so I hear you. Can't wait to hear about your new social life!

I love that things are going your way. I am jealous of the 43 half written posts and the time alone! New in my world...some offers to get paid to blog and I am running scared. :)

We just left my grandparents and I thought about writing a post around the guilt that family visits always leave you with - guilt for leaving, guilt living so far away, etc. I hope you get to see your parents again soon, and good job on making new friends!

I'm happy for you that you are so busy living your life that sometimes you don't have time to write here, because it sounds like all of the busy-ness is good right now. (Even though I like the stories and hope to read them whenever you do have time to finish and hit publish!)
