Friday Fragments #7

Once upon a time Fridays filled me with dread. It seemed everyone around me had dinner plans with their husband, movies with friends, a free weekend since the kid's were at the ex's house. I was lonely and bored and tried to scrape together activities to fill the weekend. If I kept the kid's busy maybe they wouldn't miss their dad so desperately-at least that's what I would tell myself.  Weekends meant more hours to fill, with no one to share the exhausting job of parenting. It meant being pulled in a bazillion different directions and not being able to meet anyone's needs fully.

Now that we're all under the same roof I've fallen in love with weekends again. I actually look forward to them...to the freedom, togetherness and maybe the possibility of sneaking out by myself for a bit. Big Yankee is home and we go on mini road trips exploring our new surroundings. Sometimes we just hang out at home, reading, watching tv and doing our own thing. Yet it's not lonely and exhausting anymore. It's relaxing and fun and energizes me.

Another reason I LOVE Fridays is Friday Fragments! My weekend kick-off gift to you is highlighting some of my favorite reads of the week. I'd love it if you'd share your favorites too! Just post a link in the comments and tell me what you loved about it.

And now I present to you Friday Fragments #7:

If you haven't met my friend Kristin at Preppy Girl in Pink you have an enormous void in your blogging life. She has the honor (or burden) of being my first blog reader. She eloquently wrote about why so many moms aren't in front of the camera and why that should change. Check out her Birthday self portrait and I guarantee there will be more pictures of you from here on out.

I just recently discovered Amy and I don't remember exactly how I found her. Tonight we skipped baths and stayed up late to watch The Bee Movie because she made me think about what  kind of mother I want to be.

Missy wrote a heartfelt, beautiful love letter to her parents. I hadn't seen my parents in three months and they drove three days across country to our new home for a week long visit. They left yesterday and I still cry when I think about it.

I think I met That Gabby Abby through the amazing YeahWrite community of writers. She is clever, entertaining, insightful and today she is baring her soul talking about a gift.

Happy reading!

I desperately searched for a recent picture of myself yesterday that I could share for something and I couldn't find any. Now I'm on a mission.

I feel very fortunate that our paths crossed in this giant blogosphere and that we connected.

My husband works second shift, so I definitely understand how much it sucks to be doing it all by yourself!

It's great that you are enjoying your weekends again. I can relate to the stress of trying to spend quality time and plan activities with the kids all while trying to get everything done around the house that I was unable to get to during the week. I have a husband that works alot so it ends up being the kids and I quite a bit.

Thanks for sharing these blogs! Looking forward to taking some time to read them.
