Not Mine

Something horrible happened in Connecticut today.

I could tell you where I was.

I could tell you how I found out.

I could tell you how I feel about it.

But it's neither the time nor the place for me to do so.

 It didn't happen to me.

It's tragic and horrifying and heartbreaking.

 But it's not my tragedy.

And I won't try to make it mine.

Not today.

People are suffering unfathomable shock, sadness, pain and loss.

They deserve our thoughts, prayers and respect.

They deserve space to grieve.

Perfect. I told my husband tonight how I was a little disturbed by all the posts that were in a way taking owmership of this tragedy. I cried from the horror of it all and felt a searing sympathy because I am a mother, but in the end, the grief is not mine. And the victims deserve space.
Just perfect. Ellen

No more interviewing kindergarteners.

No more pictures of the shooter.

No more speeches and visits.

Today, I kissed my 8-year-old an extra time or two.

Nice post.

I know what you mean. I had a hard time wrestling with the sadness I was feeling, knowing that those moms and dads were hurting a hundred times more.

I think it is okay for us to grieve too, but I think it's important to understand that our grief cannot compare... because we cannot, nor do we want to, fathom their pain.
