SOC Random

As I sit here trying to do a 5 minute brain dump I don't even know where to begin. Thoughts are zooming through my head but I can't focus. It's a big jumbled mess in my brain right now. I'm thinking about what I need to do, what I want to do, what I don't like to do. I am bored, not because I have nothing to do but because of the monotony of what I have to do. And yet the effort required to do something new and different is just more than I can muster right now. Most days I count the minutes until bedtime. I crave time alone..the quiet. Only having to meet my own needs. It's what gets me through the drama of homework and bedtime. And when the time comes I do what I do EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. I turn on the tv, crank up the laptop and see what the rest of the world is doing. I want to do something different. I NEED to do something different. I just don't know where to start.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…
  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
  • Link up your post below.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

Here's hoping you get some well-earned "me time."

I know and understand what you are going through.(military spouse) The only difference is that I had a (rough) date for the end of having to do it all on my own and you do not. As a society, we seem to put pressure on ourselves to enjoy every little moment of motherhood and that just isn't realistic. Sometimes it is overwhelming-especially when you are doing it alone. There are days that we just work to keep everyone alive and our heads above water. You have to forgive yourself for that. Some suggestions: instead of tv/computer, why don't you pick out a book you have been dying to read and not had time. Once the kids are in bed- get a glass of wine and either read in the peace in quiet of your family room, your bed or in the bathtub. Just go to bed early- the extra sleep might do you some good. Try breaking up the dinnertime monotony by taking the kids out to one of the "family nights". Chick Fil A has family night on Tuesdays and Sonic on Wednesdays, where kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal. We do this maybe once a month just for something different. Our Chick Fil A also usually has something fun going on inside- like the cow walking around and a person making balloon animals or doing face-painting. Just some suggestions..... hang in there!!

I struggle with some of the same things. Any time I have time to myself, I'm always on my computer feeling like I need to catch up. I'm trying to take more time to unplug, go for walks, and just enjoy outside a little more.

I'm right there with you!

I have all these things I want to do, but somehow, I never get past cranking up the internet. I do enjoy it, but I feel like I need a little more physical activity.

Good luck!

Yeah it's hard to fully unplug from the world. Maybe try reading? or journaling (with real paper?!) I find those to be relaxing. Good luck!

Thanks & now I need to figure out how to use my time wisely!

Thanks for the ideas! I have been looking for ways to make the everyday stuff feel special. It's grating on us...all this time away.

I appreciate your support and understanding :)

I REALLY need to do more time unplugged but it's like I've forgotten what I use to love. I do have a Barnes & Noble gift card from Christmas that is burning a hole in my wallet...maybe I can drag the kids there and find some must reads.

That is exactly it! I spend much of my day making my mental list of what I will FINALLY do when the kids are in bed. Then they go to bed and I do screen time.

Real paper...WHOA! :)

I am going to attempt a trip to the bookstore today. I do love reading.

I know and understand. Since I retired I seem to have slipped into the SAME THING routine. Not that I regret retiring for one minute, but sometimes I am bored. I tell myself, I'm a writer and shouldn't be bored since I have worlds to create. But, still, SAME THING. Hope you figure it out.

I'm really bad at using up my free time on the web. It is relaxing, but it is not usually very productive.

Enjoy your me time!

This is exactly how I was feeling when I put my foot down and decided to change my life. It can feel so restricting, feeling like every moment of "me" time is spent seeing what everyone else in the world is doing. I hope you find a great read at Barnes and Noble, sometimes a good book can be just what the doctor ordered! Hang in there!!

We all get sucked in to the internet don't we? The feeling that everyone else's lives must be more exciting than your own. So many of us are craving something different & something stimulating to get us through to the next day when we have to do things all over again. Or a magic clue about how to make a change. Enjoy that time you have to yourself!

You're not alone. I get those feelings too a lot. And ended up browsing and reading online :)

Oh I know this feeling. So tough to enjoy your own time when all you want to do is sleep. Hope you find your starting place!
