Ten Things of Thankful #2

1. I am thankful that I could attend Stinkbug's first flag football game on Saturday. Outside of touchdowns I don't have the slightest idea about football. I do know when my kid is having the time of his life though. He declared that he will DEFINITELY be playing in college.<<He is six and a half..the half being extremely important.

2. I spent a much needed evening with friends tonight--eating, talking, laughing until my sides hurt. Four moms and ten kids ranging in age from three to fifteen who got along wonderfully. I am thankful for friends who get me.

3. I am thankful for the chance to view life from another person's perspective. Friday I spent several hours assisting a young mom (with another on the way) get clothing vouchers and food boxes. Spending hours selecting baby outfits and searching desperately for maternity clothing at the thrift store changes how you see things.

4. I am thankful for Pizza Fridays. Between working, parenting and life in general I am spent by the end of the work week so we are re-visiting a family tradition. I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed that the six year old and I ate half of a large pizza by ourselves

5. I am thankful my ten year old daughter introduced me to Dear America books. I love that we can read & talk about them.

6. I am thankful for the beauty of autumn. We have the most gorgeous red plant/bush in front of the house.

7. Though we are separated by more than a thousand miles, I am thankful I was able to talk to my dad this week. No matter how old I am, I will always be a Daddy's Girl.

8. We were "booed" by our neighbors on Thursday. I am thankful to live in a welcoming neighborhood.

9. I've been having sleep issues on and off for years but it has really gotten worse these last two years.I am thankful for open windows, cool breezes and fans this past week which have helped me get some ZZZZZZZZZs.

10. Clean socks. I am thankful that two of the three kids have socks I can borrow.

The afternoon of perspective-changingness sounds like a really poignant one. Glad it made your list of Thankful :)

The time you spent with your friends sounds absolutely smashing. What wonderful moments to enjoy, soak in, and remember in future. Those moments are golden.

Your son sounds fantastic :) Lovely to see his enthusiasm shining through your words.

Such an awesome list :)

I, too, am thankful for autumn - and thankful I live in a climate that experiences the season in all its natural glory :-) My daughter read the American Girl books and I loved the way they fostered an interest in history for her at such a young age.

Your outing with the mom in need, things like that would definitely change one's perspective. Thank you for helping her out!

Glad you enjoyed your meeting with the other moms and kids.. Ten kids sound like quite a party! I definitely miss parent meetings!

"Technically" Stinkbug is 6 and A HALF therefore you can be proud about the pizza otherwise...just sayin' ;P

'perspective' is huge, imo.... it is the difference of living and growing, the more the better.

good to hear that you are sleeping better, that might be the only good thing I could imagine about the time of year (what we call it's-not-Summer-anymore season).

enjoyed your Post/list

At first, I was expecting you to say your son was 6 and a half feet tall. So cute that your 6-1/2 year-old has found his life's passion!

Those flag football games are so cute, aren't they? Really, when 6 and a half year olds play, you don't need to know much about football. :)

I love reading thankful lists that include helping others.

The time spent with your friends and their kids sounds like some wonderful chaos.

Great list...I especially appreciate the one about helping a mom search for maternity clothes at a thrift store. What a gift you were able to give her with your time and help.

LOVE those books...glad you are enjoying them with your daughter.

And the socks...that made me laugh out loud. I have a son I can now take sweatshirts from...fun for me, humiliating (unintentionally) for him. :)

Have a fabulous week!

Pizza Friday will be a tradition your kids will always remember. We had Taco Saturdays when I was growing up.

I saw little guys playing flag football the other day. So cute! Do you think your son will still enjoy it when it becomes tackle football? My son was all about self-preservation and didn't want anything to do with a contact sport like football!

Fall is, indeed, a delightful time of year! The colors are so pretty and the weather delicious.

I love the booed idea! Love your so close to your dad even if you cant be geographically close... and the only way borrowing your kids socks could get better is if you could share jeans and shirts as well...maybe once they are 18 and a half (the half will still be important!)

I love this idea. I've been reading Mamarific's posts on this same thing and I keep thinking I should jump on the wagon. I do this in my head all the time (and I have Little Boy K list three every night at bedtime). Being thankful changes your whole perspective and we need to practice every single day. I just love that you guys are doing this.
