SOC: Telling My Story

Prompt: How often do you get a chance to tell your life story? And when you do, how long does it take?

I love hearing people's stories, finding out what makes them tick, where they came from, where they've been and how they got where they are. The struggles they've faced, the joy they have experienced draw me in. It's one of the reasons I love blogs. I'm much more comfortable reading and listening to other people's stories than I am sharing my own. I tell my stories in bits and pieces...here. In person, I tend to give edited versions of my stories until I know the person well and trust them. I also take the audience into account. Last week my supervisor and I were exchanging "how we met" stories. Big Yankee talks about it here. And while I love how we met and it's an important chapter in our book of life,  I don't need my supervisor of less than two weeks to know we met in a bar. I gave her the abridged version for now. She got the "how we met" but not "where we met" parts.

and...time is up.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…
  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
  • Link up your post below.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.
Now…

I agree that blogs are a great place to read peoples' stories :)

I often do abbreviated stories of "how we met" as well to people I am not close to. It is easier and for people I'm not close to, less of a sharing of emotions that I am not comfortable sharing with them yet.

I totally agree with the abbreviated version for your supervisor. Not everyone deserves all our "stuff" right off the bat. AND many of us met at bars. I didn't but I could have. It's where I met the rest of the guys I dated.

I love the "how we met" story.. And? I met my hubs in a bar too.

I love reading blogs for that same reason. It is like reading non fiction stories and I actually feel like I get to know the characters in the book.

SO many people meet in bars! But I would have told the same abbreviated version of your story. Hope your new job is going well!

SO many people meet in bars! But I think you're wise to have given the new boss the abbreviated story. Hope you like your new job!

Thanks for stopping by my post. I too love reading blogs for the life stories...I might be the over-sharer of the group though, everyone gets to hear where and how we met. *g*

Some of my stories I am a bit over protective of..also it totally depends on the audience for me, kwim?
