Clueless 2012

Stasha the ListicleMaster wants to know how I know I'm living in 2012. I should warn you that I sometimes forget what year it is and I ALWAYS forget how old I am so the validity of my list might be a little sketchy.

1. It's been a few years since I was carded. Ok it's possible it may have been slight more than a FEW years.

2. Big hair is no longer a thing which is so very disappointing for me as I was born with naturally big hair.

Despite it's resemblance to a mug shot this is actually in front of my dorm room. Some
of the guys didn't believe me when I said I could make my hair bigger than their afros.

3. I don't know anyone's phone number-including my own and we don't have a landline.

4. Instead of passing notes, writing letters or calling long distance I send snarky texts to my bff all day long.

5. My kids had no idea what a pay phone was until we went to a telephone museum in the pioneer village at the amusement park. I last remember using a pay phone nine years ago when this happened.

6. Instead of hosting game nights people send invitations virtually harass me to play Bubble Safari and Farmville. I am anti stupid @ss, time wasting virtual games.

7. Back in the day the worst thing one kid could do to another is threaten "you're not invited to my birthday party!" Now there are way too many ways for kids to be cruel to each other including cyber bullying.

8. When I moved across country in seventh grade, we made friends in the neighborhood, at the park and through community activities. When we moved across country in June, I finally managed to connect with an online mom's group of complete strangers that I eventually met in person.

9. Back in my day we would go to BlockBuster to rent a vcr and movies for a birthday slumber party. People just didn't have that kind of technology at home. Now my kids watch NetFlix, Ondemand, and one of the hundreds of dvds we have, on multiple viewing devices.

10. We use to circle Christmas gift ideas in the Sears and Roebuck catalog and mail them to Grandma. She would go to the store to place an order, go back to pick up the order and wrap the gifts. Now we make wishlists on Amazon, check giftwrap and enclose card and with the click of a mouse it's en route.

Oh my goodness, it use to be so hard with movie rentals. I completely forgot about having to rent a VCR (or Betamax)for special occasions. Those were the days.

And I miss the Sears and Roebuck catalog. Wasn't that exciting when that came out?

Lovin' the hair!! You know, my kids just saw a pay phone the other day and asked me what it was! How times have changed :) BTW we still have the kids circle items in catalogs or sales ads. It's not a tradition I'm willing to let go of quite yet!

I have to admit, your whole list is awesome but I was a bit distracted after the hair shot. SO AMAZING!!!

I put it as my profile pic about 2 years ago on FB when everyone was all about finding the most flattering picture of themselves ever. One of my friend's husbands would go back & look at it whenever he needed to laugh his ass off.

I distinctly remember convincing my parents I desperately needed to rent a VCR and movies for my bday slumber party.

We would spend hours pouring over the Sears catalog plannign our lives-picking out clothes, designing our houses etc.

Thanks :)

It won't be long before pagers are in the museum too!

Thank you.

I love that your kids still circle catalog pics...those were the days.

LMAO...that is some BIG hair!!!

Oh how I miss passing notes in school. *sigh*

I was stunned when I was carded about 5 years ago in Fred Meyers (I think) cuz I was buying liquor...surprise, surprise. :) On a different trip I wasn't asked so offered my ID and let's just say I guess I'm funnier than I thought. Haha!

That's some big hair! :)

And I remember making those types of Christmas lists for my grandparents. Now you're right, it's all online and at the click of a button it's at my door and gift wrapped. Crazy!

That is some impressive hair!

I remember going to school with a quarter to make sure I could use the pay phone to call my mom when it was time to be picked up!

Best. Hair. Ever.

And those ones about the phones are so true. I had so many of my friends' numbers memorized, now I have to work to remember my husbands when filling out forms with emergency contacts!
