Looking Back

We have never really spent that much time together. Not really. Not in the way most people might expect a couple to spend time together. Looking back I realize it has always been that way. Together-but not.

We met at a bar in Oklahoma- because isn't that where all of the best relationships start? When he told me he was from Utah I didn't fully grasp that he was currently residing in the Beehive state. If I had, I would never have given him my phone number--and life as I know it wouldn't exit. But I did give him my digits--whether I was blinded by his towering height or beer goggles.

Still, I was more than a bit confused when my phone rang the next day and Salt Lake City popped up on caller id. We chatted for a bit-in that awkward I don't really know you and now I realize you live 1169.5 miles away from me way.

He called again a few days later and said he'd be passing thru my neck of the woods in early June. He had some story about visiting a friend from high school who was stationed at an army base a few hours from where I lived. He asked if he could see me.

To be honest, I didn't really remember what he looked like-other than being tall with dark hair. I had never done anything like this before. Hell, I could count on one hand the number of times I gave my real name and phone number to a guy I just met. But I'd recently kicked the last cheating asshat to the curb and figured I might as well have a little fun. I figured Utah Man would call me on his way thru town and we'd grab a few beers and something to eat and I'd send him on his merry way.

But it didn't happen like that.

I can't believe you did it- being that far away would make me nervous! And yet.... I'm staying tuned too :)
