Fractured Friday Fifty One

Welcome to my inconsistent Friday feature where I share random tidbits about my week and share links to some of my favorite reads of the week.

Random:

1. My boss's last day was Thursday and I am completely bummed. She wasn't here very long--less than six months to be exact--but she made a positive impact. During the summer I had planned on looking for another job but her enthusiasm and ideas inspired me to stick around a bit longer.

2. I was FINALLY able to have Stinkbug's parent teacher conference as both Big Yankee and I were out of town during conferences. Second grade has been more challenging and I can feel his confidence slipping and see him starting to dislike school- which breaks my heart. His teacher had WONDERFUL things to say about him-how hard he works, what a good friend he is, how easy going he is and that he has the best, longest eyelashes she has ever seen in all her years of teaching. Walking out he said, "Well I guess I AM smarter than I thought I was."

3. I am part of a women's organization with 70+ members and I organized a volunteer opportunity for our community holiday assistance program. Only FIVE people volunteered which leaves me feeling angry, sad and jaded.

4. I finally FORCED Big Yankee to try Thai food and he loves it.

Some Words Should Be Hard to Say is an honest, thoughtful confession about the dreaded R word. I grew up with a cousin who was severely cognitively delayed and my mom spent her life being a friend and advocate to people who were given this label. This MATTERS to me.

It's great that you had a boss that managed to get things done, but so sad that she is leaving. Hopefully you will get someone even better to replace her!

My Mum and her friends do a lot to help the stray dogs around here, but when they are looking for volunteers to help with something they can never find them. Which they find frustrating too.

I m really bummed but as she said "now we can be friends!" Not that we weren't before but it is less complicated now that she doesn't supervise me

Sorry to hear your Mum has a hard time finding volunteers as well.
