Saturday Seven: New Home Edition

Last Friday night at 11:37 pm we pulled into the driveway of our new home. A home we had only driven by on our visit nearly three months ago. A home more than 1231 miles away from our beloved house of seven years.

When we were here in March house hunting sucked the life out of me. I wrote about it here and here.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by what I saw. (Translation by my Husband: I'm shocked that Big Yankee found something that met my approval, much less exceeded my expectations.)

And so I give to you things I love about Idaho

1. QUIET
Unbelievably quiet. It's like I'm in a sound proof house. I hear nothing outside. This is a HUGE change from my asshat redneck neighbors who partied well into the night, parked all over the street and in front of MY HOUSE and then retaliated when I called the police.

2. Drive thru liquor store
It's conveniently located right next to Baskin Robbins. Win/Win!
In Kansas one could only buy 3.2 beer at grocery stores and Helmart. Since it's frowned upon (and probably against the law) to drag one's children into liquor stores and I've been solo parenting for 500 months Momma was extremely wine deprived.  Now we can get double scoops of ice cream and a case of wine!

3. Beautiful Weather
Sunny, breathtakingly blue skies, no humidity and moderate temperatures render me speechless. It's been in the 70s and 80s during the day and 40s and 50s at night. There's usually a slight, refreshing breeze that comes around at the exact moment you think you might possibly break a sweat. We sleep with the windows open and barely run the air conditioning. I realize it's barely June, but I am confident that our utility bills will be significantly lower here.

4. No insects
I have yet to see a spider or a fly or other annoying bug type creatures. I imagine they must exist here but I am enjoying the absence of them for the time being.

5. Inexpensive
A gallon of milk is $2.25 (we were paying $3.08)
A box of Triscuits is $1.88 (as opposed to $2.50 on SALE)
Cheese -well it's just cheap!

This fits perfectly with my oft repeated slogan "there's never a vacation from saving money."

6. Undiscovered waters
And mountains, and streams, and museums, and shopping, and restaurants. I'm thrilled to be able to explore a new part of the country with my family!

7. REUNITED (and it feels so good!)
After NINETEEN MONTHS of living apart my family of five is living in the SAME STATE under the SAME ROOF!

yay on being together again! Also, drive thru liquor? Sounds amazing. I want that. You can't even by booze in Minnesota on Sundays. Most ridiculous law I've ever heard of.

That's wonderful! I'm so glad you like your new home. My son and his family live in Boise and I LOVE visiting. I live in Vegas and they don't understand why I like Boise so much. Because it's real, and it's quiet. Nice post!

Oh, I know what you mean about house-hunting sucking the life out of you. We recently went through that ourselves. And a drive through liquor store next to Baskin Robbins? I can't think of much that could be better!

I'm jealous! How is it we don't have a drive-through liquor stores in Northern California! I live in wine country for goodness' sake! OK, we do have wine bars. So there! LOL!
